The ocean quivers when the tide changes. Water that had been flowing forward and upward pauses with a unsure hush. Momentum stalls, then stops. Hence, the water turns. It reverses course.
I used to tightly grab the rusty, damp guardrail of a bridge that spanned the Intercoastal Waterway to lean over and watch the water when the tide changed. Thirty feet below me, the river’s flow would stop. For a minute or two, hushed water quivered senselessly.
Then, as if answering some divine cue, the water would “gather” and flow in the opposite direction.

Politically, we’re in a pause. The tide is shifting. It’s reversing course. Literal forces are gathering in a dark, cold place, though their existence is denied and actions hidden. For months now, elitists have been tapping war drums … to “drum up” public support. Stupefied, television-watching leftists have been dancing to that sound. They don’t realize how loud it will get and how fast they’ll have to dance to stay alive. The rest of us hate the sound of war. We know it’s our blood that will be shed; elitists will be warm, fed and safe.
Elitists need war. They’ve got to conceal their nefarious, perverse deeds and divert attention from their gross incompetence and greed. War, after all, is a very effective cover … and cover-up. They know this.
Elitists want war.
Like water under the bridge during a tidal change, this administration’s motion is may seem pointless right now, but soon it’s words and actions will gather and move in the opposite direction. This political pause won’t last long. The election will end it, particularly if the Democrat/Left is routed. If Mr. Biden decisively loses the House and Senate, all hell will break forth. At that point, elitists will have nothing to lose.
There will never be a truce between the West and the East because Western elitists need war. I’ve been amusedly watching Russia — Putin — not respond to Western goading. Putin has shown himself to be a mature and patient man. He’s a strategic, long-term thinker. His ego is under control. He hasn’t reacted irrationally or succumbed to the temptation of guerrilla warfare. As the soft mud in the Ukraine slowly freezes, Putin’s plan will thaw. By then, civilians in Kherson and other bordering villages will be safely out of harms way. They’ll have their forces in place.
The West, too, has been reading itself for war. US boots on the ground in the Ukraine are supposedly “inspecting” the huge number of weapons re-sold on the black market, even though most of the “missing” weapons are already in CIA hands to be given to “friends.”
This is most certainly a Democrat-party war. For a few years, now, the D’s have been frothing over Russia, less so India and China. Russia has been their bogeyman which they effectively used against Trump until their accusations were proven to be a ridiculous hoax. Somehow, Democrats, NATO and the EU managed to unite many big countries opposed to them. It’s really dumb to unite your enemies and force fence-sitters into their fold. But they’ve done this.
They’ve also done it at home.
Democrats will soon be fighting on two fronts — one at home, the other abroad. This they haven’t come to grips with yet. They probably think that Americans will unite under the pressure of war as we did when we were a homogeneous culture during World War II. This won’t happen. Elitists unglued the social, religious and cultural forces that once bound us to each other — their perverse policies, Secularity, “otherness” and immigration have already pulled us apart. This was their non-wartime strategy — divide and conquer. It worked. But now that elitists want us to rally behind them in war, there’s no “us” to rally. They can only work with disunited, disparate groups of people who have one thing in common — a deep distrust of them.
It could be the case that the populist distrust of elitists is more unifying than the citizenship they cheapened when they tossed it away.
The ideals and values forced on us cut to the essence of who they are and were, but also revealed to us who we are. We are not they. We know their culture is opposed to ours. We’re not that dumb. So we will not blindly follow homegrown “foreign” elitists who have earned neither our trust nor respect.
They have no idea what’s brewing “out here” in the American heartland in spite of their ubiquitous surveillance. What we think we hold in our heart. We whisper to family, friends and neighbors. We pray about it. We exchange information when possible. There’s a shared sense “out here” that OUR government is the enemy, not Russia. OUR government = foreigners in our midst. Russia, in contrast, seems like a distant and blurry force, far less of a threat than the elitists in our own backyards.
Almost twenty-billion dollars have gone to the Ukraine. That’s a lot. As ordinary Americans suffer from regulation and inflation at home, in part because of ridiculous government spending that doesn’t benefit them as well as from the the increasing cost of a war they don’t want, they will rebel. It’s inevitable. The flood of disinformation cannot hold back this tide. Right now, the people are quivering. Theirs is a pause, a hush before the inevitable. Soon they will reverse course.
Populist movements are tidal.
